Heritage is like a seed that must be planted. When it is planted in our young people, the results of the growth will produce effects over a longer period of time. It is important to share your heritage with people of all ages and cultivate it to produce strong family values and stronger family trees. Our Norwegian heritage was transplanted in America and cultivated by the early immigrants that numbered in the thousands. At the turn of the last century, the Norwegian Americans gave up the Norwegian language because they were Americans but they began the Bygdelag and other organizations in America to remember their Norwegian heritage. As Norwegian/Americans, we have not done a good enough job of cultivating and fertilizing to produce the best possible growth. This year, let us all show our mother country how proud we are to be of Norwegian descent and sharing our roots across the ocean.
